Book Lovers Dream Mountain Retreat - 2 King Beds
Hendersonville, NC, United States
About
*Helene Update* The lower gravel part of our road was washed out. It has been partially repaired and is currently passable with 4WD. The road will be accessible for all cars after repairs. The Writer's Retreat is a historic cabin nestled in the woods originally part of the Huckleberry Mountain Artists' Colony in the 1930s.
Good to know
The Writer's Retreat was part of the Huckleberry Mountain Artists' Colony in the 1930s-40s, and you'll understand why artists congregated here the moment you arrive. The wooded mountain setting is serene and the perfect place to relax and recharge. Drink your morning coffee on the large deck next to the stream, or curl up in the overstuffed chair with a book from the large library. The Writer's Retreat is the perfect setting to escape the hustle and bustle of life and make memories. If you get tired of the peace and quiet, the cabin is a short drive to hiking, waterfalls, apple picking, vineyards, historic downtown Hendersonville, and Asheville. Check out our guidebook on Airbnb for our favorite area recommendations. Our king size beds use the Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress (12") with 100% cotton bedding. The mattress is medium firm, which we've found to be the most comfortable for the greatest number of people. While the Writer's Retreat has been fully updated with modern conveniences, it is still a historic cabin with the quirks of an almost 100-year-old house, including floors that slope and oddly placed steps. It may not be suited for guests with mobility challenges. The Writer’s Retreat is not child-proofed. The Artist's Retreat has high-speed fiber internet as of August 2023. Cell service is good for most carriers. The Artist's Retreat is directly across the road from the Writer's Retreat and visible from the front porch. Consider renting both for groups of up to 8 people.
Other Details to Note
The Writer’s Retreat has high-speed fiber internet as of August 2023. Our cabin is in close proximity to the woods. You might see or encounter wildlife including, but not limited to: raccoons, opossums, bears, mice, birds, bees, wasps, mosquitoes, spiders, ants, crickets, palmetto bugs, moths, and daddy longlegs to name a few. We do spray in and around the cabin regularly to reduce the incidence of bugs. However, we cannot control mother nature, and therefore, do not refund if you encounter wildlife during your stay. Remember that a spider can build a web in under an hour. While we clean them regularly, you're likely to find a few new ones. Please enjoy your time in nature! Winter weather may affect road access at the Writer’s Retreat. We prioritize guest safety. If the weather forecast indicates ice or snow, guests may cancel or change their dates at no penalty regardless of cancellation policy at time of booking.

Accessibility
Neighborhood
Huckleberry Writer's Retreat is secluded, but not remote. You will be just 12 minutes off of I-26 (exit 49A) and all of the shopping and restaurants at the exit, including a Walmart. The cabin is just 15 minutes to historic downtown Hendersonville, 25 minutes to Chimney Rock, 30 minutes to Lake Lure, and an easy 40 minutes to downtown Asheville straight up the interstate.
Guest Access
Guests have full access to the entire property during their stay. There will never be anyone else staying on the property. Our yard maintenance crew stops by every two weeks for about 30 minutes to weed and maintain plantings. This keeps the property beautiful for our guests to enjoy. Depending on the dates of your stay, you may briefly encounter them.

The cabin has parking for 2 vehicles. The cabin is on a single-lane gravel road that can be bumpy in places. 4WD is not necessary. We strongly recommend that guests arrive for the first time before dark as it's easy to accidently turn into a neighbor's driveway in the dark.
