Good to know

The Artist's Retreat was part of the Huckleberry Mountain Artists' Colony in the 1930s-40s, and you'll understand why artists congregated here the moment you arrive. The wooded mountain setting is serene and the perfect place to relax and recharge, and the cabin is full of original art to inspire your creativity. Drink your morning coffee on the large screened porch with a view of wildflowers on the mountain, or spend your evening around the fire pit enjoying the mountain air. The Artist's Retreat is the perfect setting to escape the hustle and bustle of life and make memories. If you get tired of the peace and quiet, the cabin is a short drive to hiking, waterfalls, apple picking, vineyards, historic downtown Hendersonville, and Asheville. Check out our guidebook on Airbnb for our favorite area recommendations. The cozy king-size beds are perfect for sleeping in late or taking a well-deserved nap. Our beds use the Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress (12") with 100% cotton bedding. The mattress is medium firm, which we've found to be the most comfortable for the greatest number of people. While the Artist's Retreat has been fully updated with modern conveniences, it is still a historic cabin with the quirks of an almost 100 year old house, including sloping floors and very low ceilings in the bedrooms that may not be a great fit for tall guests. The Artist’s Retreat is not child proofed. The rock face of the mountain around the Artist’s Retreat can be slick when wet. The Artist's Retreat has fiber internet as of August 2023. Cell service is good for most carriers. The Writer's Retreat is directly across the road from the Artist's Retreat and visible from the parking area and stone patio (bistro set and grill). Consider renting both for groups of up to 8 people.

Neighborhood

Huckleberry Writer's Retreat is secluded, but not remote. You will be just 10 minutes off of I-26 (exit 49A) and all of the shopping and restaurants at the exit, including a Walmart. The cabin is just 15 minutes to historic downtown Hendersonville, 25 minutes to Chimney Rock, 30 minutes to Lake Lure, and an easy 40 minutes to downtown Asheville straight up the interstate.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the entire property during their stay. There will never be anyone else staying on the property. Our yard maintenance crew stops by every two weeks for about 30 minutes to weed and maintain plantings. This keeps the property beautiful for our guests to enjoy. Depending on the dates of your stay, you may briefly encounter them.

WHERE YOU'LL STAY

Find us

The cabin has parking for 2 vehicles. The cabin is on a single lane gravel road that can be bumpy in places. The final 100ft. of road is the steepest. We recommend either 4WD or experience with mountain driving. We strongly recommend that guests arrive for the first time before dark as it's easy to accidently turn into a neighbor's driveway in the dark.
